Normally, I'm working on future books by now with all my next year's books done over the summer. This year has turned out different. While I had a line-up all figured out, a different story I've been toying around with screamed it needed to come out instead of a different book to kickstart 2025.
I'm now sitting at almost 50,000 words since I took the picture above and I'm just entering the juicy middle of the book. And boy, let me warn you. I don't really know what I'm about to unleash into the world. This story is something else and I FLOVE it! I don't have much else to share, too consumed with getting this book done. Goal for September: finish this insanity. Have a great one! x Brooke

How is it the end of August already?
While we are preparing for hunting season (gotta fill our freezers) I'm not giving up on reading time. Here's what I read for the month. Most are in series, so I only show the first book but will link to series pages. A Ruin of Roses by K.F. Breene Goodreads Amazon The Lion's Mate by Darlene Tallman Goodreads Amazon Wolf God by Veronica Douglas Goodreads Amazon North Queen by Nicola Tyche Goodreads Amazon Manacled by Lembke You'll have to Google this one since it's a fan fiction. War Bride by Sylvia Mercedes Goodreads Amazon Castle of Nevers and Nightmares by Lana Pecherczyk Goodreads Amazon From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout Goodreads Amazon Barnes and Noble She's Got the Time by M.O. Mack Goodreads Amazon Barnes and Noble There you have it! As always, I hope you find something you are drug into. x Brooke You might think I'll regret it this coming winter when the winds pick up and the snow starts to fall along with the plummeting temperatures, but I won't. I will welcome it and rejoice that we are hopefully going to get a good amount of moisture so next summer won't be as miserable as this one. I'm over the heat and not sleeping well because I have a fear of my A/C unit freezing up when in the middle of the night it does cool off enough. I'm ready for fires popping, elk bulging, and fresh meat to process to put into our freezers. As for writing, I'm working well into the first book for next year. I feel somewhat behind considering I wasn't planning on this book until a few weeks ago. I'm already 21k in and the characters just met. That's all from me this week! Have a great one. Happy Reading. x Brooke I'm back at it after spending Saturday at the Big Sky Book Event and Sunday spending some time at the county rodeo.
Saturday was great! The best part? Finally getting to meet someone I've known since the beginning of my author career and has become one of my closest friends. I teared up. I'm not much of a crier in my adult life but I almost did Saturday. Thank you S.H. Pratt for putting the event together and thankful everyone who came to support all of us there. My next event will be a craft show in my hometown. As always, happy reading and have a good week! x Brooke I've been so stressed, not sure why, for the past couple of weeks I've become twitchy.
So, while my husband was at an archery shoot with my brother, the youngest and I took off to one of our favorite fishing spots. Two hours of it all to ourselves and only two fish caught, but we did have a doe hang out with us the entire time. This week, I'm working on something big for next year as well as wrapping up getting everything together for the Big Sky Book event in Billings, Montana this weekend! I hope to see you there. That's all from me this week. Have a great one! x Brooke I'm a week late, but I'm still here!
It felt like I read more, and I did but it was the end of a series I shared with you from my June Wrap-up. Ready for the links? Jacked Up: Lumbercats #6 by Dixie Painter Goodreads Amazon Barnes and Noble Curse of Shadows and Thorns by LJ Andrews Goodreads Amazon The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman Goodreads Amazon Upon the New Moon by Makayla Wheland Goodreads Amazon Of Sword and Silver by January Bell Goodreads Amazon A Ruin of Roses by K.F. Breene Goodreads Amazon Wild Wolf by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti Goodreads Amazon Of Darkness and Ruination by Rachel Fallon Goodreads Amazon And that's all. As always, I hope you discover your next read from this list and if not, maybe something to spark a pull to another book. Happy Reading. Brooke I have two more outlines I'm planning on working on before I'm taking the rest of the summer off with my kiddos!
That'll make for five future rough drafts for me to hammer out when they go back to school. I know, I sound crazy but it's my system and it works out well for me. So, today, I'm finishing listening to a friend on a podcast and outlining one of the two. I know I didn't do What Brooke Read this past Friday, but I'll get it up this week. Have a great week! As much as I want to outline the first few books I'm going to be working on this fall, I really don't want to be down in the smoke and heat. I want to escape for the mountains where it's slightly cooler and not nearly as smokey for the rest of the summer just to fish, hike, take pictures, and relax.
But, sadly, like all other adults, I have to work. But I plan on escaping to do some fishing for the next couple of weekends. In unrelated book news, Timber, my yellow lab, had a surgery this past week to remove a benign tumor from her cheek. She's doing great, acting like her usual happy-go-lucky self even if she has to wear the cone of shame until the middle of next week. I don't have much else to share for the week. Have a great one! x Brooke I'm feeling this raccoon today. It's been a week since I wrapped up the drafts for my 2025 books and thought I'd be through at least two outlines by now. And I've got nothing right now. I've played Minecraft with my kids, speed walk/jogged a 5k, and itching to be up on the mountain for a break from this heat while also inhaling too much smoke. Wyoming and Montana are burning up this year. I knew it would be bad thanks to our lack of snow, don't let our late season snowfall fool you, it didn't stick, but I didn't think it would hit in July. More like August. Maybe this means our August and September will be cooler?
This week, I'm going to do my best to focus on getting at least one outline complete. Banks needs a book after all, right? But, we will see. Timber has surgery later this week to have a benign tumor removed from her cheek. Pray for my sweet girl. I know she's in the best of hands and will be okay, but I still worry. (Not to mention the bill.) But mainly how she will be. She's young and healthy enough it should be a simple procedure. That's all for me this week. Have a great one and read an awesome book! x Brooke This week is the Sheridan WYO Rodeo week, so I thought what better way to celebrate than putting my series inspired by the rodeo up for sale!
